The guitar Kurt Cobain playing during Nirvana’s 1993 performance on MTV’s Unplugged has set a record for musical instruments at an auction. The 1959 Martin D-18E sold for an astonishing $6.01 Million! The guitar is special because Kurt Cobain played it, but it came with it’s original hard shell case decorated by Cobain, three baggage claim stubs are attached to the handle, along with an Alaska Airlines sticker affixed to the case. The storage compartment in the case also contains Cobain’s half used pack of Martin guitar strings, three guitar picks and his suede drug stash bag decorated with a miniature silver spoon, fork and knife. The winning bid came from Peter Freedman of Rode Microphones and that $6.01 million dollar price beats the previous record of $3.95 million for a black Stratocaster owned by David Gilmour from Pink Floyd.
