Last Friday Julien’s Auction House in New York City held a special auction of Beatles memorabilia, strangely enough to mark the 50th anniversary of the Beatles breaking up. All the items in the 250 piece lot sold for more than the Auction House estimated, like a bass drum head for $200,000, but the piece that fetched the biggest price was the hand written lyrics to Hey Jude, written by Paul McCartney. Julien’s estimated that the one sheet of paper would sell for $120,000 to $140,000 but when the gavel dropped it sold for OVER $900,000 dollars! The winning bidder is anonymous, the auction was to be held at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York City but it happened all online because of the city’s Coronavirus close down.
