Twelve Grand Junction natives were involved in the making of Loners, including two actors and ten crew members.
Loners features stars from shows such as The Walking Dead, NCIS: New Orleans, Scandal, Netflix's One Day at a Time, TBS' Wrecked, The Young and the Restless, and many more.
Turrou is bringing the director, writer, and select actors for a Q&A after the film, and an additional Q&A on May 18th with local high school and college students interested in acting and filmmaking.
Loners is a goofy satire about a group of scapegoated introverts forced into a ridiculous group therapy program by the government as part of its "War On Loneliness" to stop American violence. Caught up in a federal conspiracy to justify the failing program, they must stand up for their right to be alone... together.
Tyson Turrou grew up in Grand Junction. His sister worked on the film Thelma and Louise, and when Tyson was 12 years old he was on the set and fell in love with film. He was in several plays at FMHS and after graduating in 1996 he went on to film school at the University of Southern California. He booked his first TV show in 1999, and to date he has guest starred in over 25 TV shows and movies. His latest credits include Better Call Saul, NCIS, Bosch, S.W.A.T. and Parenthood. Loners is the first film he has produced.
Loners began when Tyson felt a Los Angeles play he was acting in would make a great film. He decided to produce, and worked with the playwright, Neil McGowan, to adapt the play into a feature. Tyson hired Eryc Tramonn, a USC classmate to direct. Loners was filmed with the play's original cast plus 20 more actors (many of whom were on hit TV shows) and around 100 crew members.
Grand Junction residents have played an important role in the film. Turrou held a crowd funding campaign on Indiegogo and dozens of Junction natives contributed. During filming the crew included Grand Junction residents in the roles of associate and executive producer and production assistants. Additionally, Eve Hansen created visual effects, Dirk Clingman did conceptual art for a vital part of the film, and Ricky Oakley, who was studying at the USC theatre school, booked his first acting role on Loners.
Loners will play at the Avalon Theatre in Grand Junction May 17th at 7:30. There will be a red carpet and step and repeat for pictures with the cast and crew starting at 6:45, and a Q&A with producer/actor Tyson Turrou, director Eryc Tramonn, writer/actor Neil McGwan and actors Brian Letscher (Scandal, Valor) and Keith Stevenson. They will also hold an extended sit down with local high school and college students on the 18th to get into the details of filmmaking, acting careers, and to answer any questions.
