Last Saturday night (7-6) at London’s Wembley Stadium The Who debuted a new song called “Hero Ground Zero” with a symphony orchestra and that song may be included on The Who’s forthcoming album which will be the first record of new material in 13 years. The last new Who record was “Endless Wire” back in 2006. Pete Townsend said in a new interview that after countless years of rehashing the bands early songs in different configurations, he made doing a new record a condition of playing any live shows in 2019. Townsend said he would not sign any contracts unless he and Roger Daltry were allowed to record an album of new material. He explained that doing a new album had nothing to do with wanting another hit Who record, that it was purely personal, about his pride, his sense of self worth and dignity as a writer. This new Who album is expected sometime this fall, in the meantime The Moving On Tour will continue all summer with a stop Sunday September 29th at The Pepsi Center in Denver. At every stop Townsend and Daltry are performing portions of Tommy as well as their 1973 rock opera Quadrophenia and of course The Who’;s biggest singles.
