Some say that he is from the hills of Tennessee, others the wide open spaces of Northern Nevada. We have even heard tell that it was in a small town in West Texas or up in the mountains of Colorado that birthed this legend. The truth may never be known, but the character will always be loved and maybe even feared. It is the tale of Dooley the KStar Janitor. No one truly knows where this man came from, but we do know that he is wild and a little bit goofy.
It has been rumored that he was once married to the wildest woman in all of Winnemucca, Nevada. Some say that no woman has ever tamed him. Others just claim that he is a straight up playa.
We do know this, he has been a part of our lives at 96.1 KStar for a long time. This is how we came to know the fuzzy, smelly, mop bucket of fun.
In the early days, when the only people we knew were listening were our wives (and that was a bit of a stretch some days) there was one that would always be there. He would call the request line and want to hear something like, “Nuke Nox Nero”. It took us a while to understand, but we would always say we would see what we could do for him. He would go off topic at times and tell us of the wild tales of what had happened the night before. Of course we could not understand a word, but he would eventually laugh and we would know that was the end of the story. We would laugh too and he grew to like us quite a bit.
Soon he would hang out in the front office and creep out, we mean entertain the gals up front. Only two of them quit over his antics. Like the time that he was re-enacting the dance scenes from Showgirls with a broom he found near the dumpster. Honestly he could move quite well for a guy that looked like something the cat horked up.
The really funny thing about our man Dooley is that he eventually got the job as our janitor. What is funny about it is the fact no one remembers hiring him, nor does it appear he has ever collected a paycheck. But he shows up most days and provides us with some outstanding show material.
