The trials, the tribulations, the pairs of sweatpants we all went through for the past…what?…2 years? I really can’t remember. My short term memory is pretty shot. Been spending most of my time recently on how the spell “Quizack Hatarack” or whatever the Bene Gesserits are getting down with when it comes to Christ-like figures who hold the key to expanding universal consciousness. I apologize to those who are wondering why I’m speaking gibberish. Go see the movie Dune. That will help. IF you’re any self respecting fan of pop culture, it should be on your list. Hell, read the book if you want a real challenge. Herbert’s prose, world-building, and propensity for describing wrinkly quadrupeds enclosed in terrariums filled with space cocaine that allows interstellar travel might throw you for a loop. I mean, it’s generally assumed George Lucas took nearly all his inspiration for Star Wars from the collection of Dune novels. But hey, no worries…you wouldn’t be the first one.
Here’s a visual aid.
Yeah…I don’t know either. Have fun explaining that to any filthy casuals that want to accompany you on your journeys to the melange-rich fields of Arrakis.
Speaking of journeys, I’m embarking on one this weekend. It’s been a long time coming for it too. Post pandemic, many of the things geeks, nerds, fantasy freaks, ether enthusiasts, and others used to enjoy were in a certain limbo. We all stared into the void, the tactile oblivion wrought by the ol’ Rona and wondered if we’d ever get back to what we love…and not only in the world of pop culture. Well, you can’t keep a good top of the food chain species down, can ya?
Back, big as life and twice as ugly, is the FanExpo Denver, which promises to reignite your delight for all things clad in spandex, lost in space, or horror themed, and that’s just to start. Check it out.
Oh baby. Like I said…tip of the iceberg. You can hobnob with cosplayers, visit your favorite comic creators, learn how to break into the business, get rare photo ops, pick up insane collectibles, shop over 400,000 square feet, play video games, try to get Bill Shatner in your space rocket, and even learn something in the pop culture classroom. Here’s a young Thor learning how to swing their hammer from a previous pop culture classroom.

The amount you can do and experience is almost endless. The whole list is available here. Hope to see you there. If we can see each other amidst the sea of flesh bags and meat sacks all looking for the same stimuli. It’s a special edition, and as the team behind it all says…
“Hey Fans,
We’re thrilled to announce FAN EXPO Denver: SPECIAL EDITION will happen October 29-31, 2021 – Halloween weekend – at Denver’s Colorado Convention Center. Tickets are now on sale.
Why is this called a ‘SPECIAL EDITION’? Tickets will be limited, and the event will be 75% of the size planned for FAN EXPO Denver 2022. Although it will be slightly smaller, get ready for everything you love about the event, from celebrity guests to workshops to shopping madness (and everything in between).
FAN EXPO Denver: SPECIAL EDITION will give us the opportunity to gather, support our community, and celebrate in a way that we haven’t been able to for a while. A portion of the event proceeds will support Pop Culture Classroom, our beloved non-profit partner, and its work to promote literacy, learning, imagination, and inclusive communities through pop culture.
You are an amazing community and we can’t wait to see you this fall.
The FAN EXPO Denver & Pop Culture Classroom Team”
Get going and grab yourself a spot. If there’s any room left.
