The Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame in Cleveland have announced which artists will be inducted as the class of 2020. Finally the Doobie Brothers will be in inducted along with T Rex, Depeche Mode and Nine Inch Nails. Once again this year, there are two inductees that for us rock fans make no sense. Whitney Houston and The Notorious B.I.G. are also being inducted this year. Music Journalist Jon Landau, who amongst other things co-produced several albums with Bruce Springsteen will be recognized with the special Ahmet Ertegun Award, honoring people who have had a major influence on rock n roll. Notably absent from the list of inductees is The Dave Mathews Band. They were a first time nominee and won the annual fan vote with more than a million votes cast online since October. The top five artists in that vote make up a fan ballot which counts as one vote amongst the thousand other ballots turned in from music industry people and other artists. Pat Benatar, The Doobie Brothers, Soundgarden and Judas Priest were the other top vote getters in the fan category. This will be the first time in seven years the winner of the fan vote was not included in that year’s Rock Hall Class. An artist is not eligible for induction until 25 years after the release of their first single, album or EP, so the class of 2020 had to have released their first eligible music in 1994 or earlier. For the first time, The Rock Hall induction ceremony will be broadcast live on HBO May 2nd at 6pm our time. Tickets for the event go on sale to the general public on February 27th through Ticketmaster.
