Ginger Baker the iconic drummer for Cream passed away Sunday. In the late 60’s Baker formed Cream with Eric Clapton and bassist Jack Bruce. Unfortunately Cream was only together for two years but managed to release 4 albums in that time, their debut “Fresh Cream”, “Desraeli Gears” and “Wheels Of Fire” followed by the 4th album simply entitled “Goodbye”. That album was actually released months after the band had broken up. The demise of Cream was due to fighting between Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce and Eric Clapton getting tired of being in the middle of their incessant arguing. Baker went on to play with several bands, never for any length of time due to his temper, but he was a huge influence on many rock drummers and bands. Accolades from some of the biggest names in rock music are online today. Baker had some serious health problems in recent years including heart surgery 3 years ago, a bout with a serious lung infection and he had been in the hospital for weeks in what his family called a serious illness. He also had an on again off again heroin addiction for more than 30 years. Ginger Baker was 80.
