After the Chicago Bears lost on the final play of the game a little over a week ago a couple of thoughts crossed my mind. One, how crazy are we as sports fans to threaten someone who makes a mistake in a game. The other is that we are all very fortunate in our lives that we are not watched every second of every day at work.
What if the rest of life was like the NFL? You would have to be drafted into your position and then make the team. Imagine that your first job at a fast food restaurant was done like the Draft.
Announcer: “Here is Steve, he has outstanding potential. He should be perfect on the fry vat because he has eaten more fries than anyone in his class. He does have one weakness, he tends to be distracted when a pretty girl walks by. So that is a concern. It could cost him in his draft position.”
Then, after you have been there for a while, you get traded from the burger joint to the Taco Shack.
Announcer: “Steve was outstanding with burgers, but how will he handle it when he takes over burrito duties? I’m not sure that it is going to be a smooth transition. He has been outstanding for a long time, but burritos and burgers are totally different animals.”
We won’t even get into the analysis by the talking heads each night on the sports cast. Well, I guess we should be lucky that our lives are not lived under that microscope and no one will tell us how awful we are if we miss a kick.
